Skyfell Geography: Piruna Fields

Image
Skyfell Geography: Piruna Fields I’ve posted a handful of blogs regarding my homebrew campaign setting I call Skyfell. The first was a general description that I wrote up for new players so that they could get a taste for its mood and general feel. I’ve also been blogging the sessions  for the campaign I’m currently running in that setting. It is very much a work in progress. I wanted to share a little more about the geography in part to provide some more background for my players to latch onto but also to make more clear the gaps in the setting so that any of my players can explore and add to it.  Previous installments have details both Akima Prime and Doraku . This installment is about Piruna Fields. I hope you enjoy it. Piruna Fields Overview The Piruna Fields is an extensive collection of islands and other geological objects spread across nearly three thousand miles of the Known Skies in a three-armed spiral. Common knowledge holds this mostly untouched wildern

Making Trees

Making Trees As I’ve mentioned many times before on this blog, I use Heroscape map tiles for my Dungeons and Dragons   homebrew campaign, Skyfell . A  large number of locales in Skyfell are in dense jungles and forests. While the Heroscape trees are great, I simply don't have enough of them to really drive home the flavor of many of those settings. Unfortunately, the original Heroscape terrain is now pretty pricey on eBay. So I decided to pull up my big-gnome pants and set into a little bit of do-it-yourself crafting. After a some looking around, I found  trounistro's   30-palm-tree set for a pretty good deal. This set includes a variety of types and sizes. They are also plastic, which appealed to me because I didn't want to fuss too much about storage and handling. The only drawback was that while each tree had posts to anchor it into either a base or a diorama, the set came with no bases. I didn't want to damage any of my Heroscape tiles either. So, I knew I

Skyfell Geography: Guilds of Highwater

Image
Skyfell Geography: Guilds of Highwater In my homebrew campaign of Skyfell , there are guilds that provide a variety of professional services to their paying members, including training, access to the tools and supplies of the trade, legal advice, work placement, and social networking. This post discusses a few of these guilds. It covers either those that align with the player characters’ classes or those with which the player characters have interacted. There are, of course, many more than just the few I present here. As the campaign rolls along, I’ll expand this list. Gearmount Foundry While the Gearmount Foundry headquarters is located on Akima Prime , there are satellite guilds scattered all over Skyfell. As a general rule, each location manages its own immediate affairs. Its activities are influenced by the local culture and laws. That said, each is also centrally monitored and directed when it comes to larger goals. The guild in Highwater is no different. Experiment

Skyfell Campaign: Session 14

Image
Skyfell Introduction I started a once-per-month  Dungeons and Dragons  game in my  Skyfell campaign setting . I wanted to provide my players with a log of their adventures and then realized that such a log might make for fun blog posts. See the  Session Index  for a complete listing. The cast is: Rodney - Tauffae Twofeather Topshelf - male orc, Fighter ( Champion ) Dan - Drekzhar - male minotaur, Bard/Rogue ( College of Swords, no specialty ) Laura - Meribore Softwalker - female fitbolg, Druid ( Circle of the Moon) Michelle - Bronte Whitewinter - male firbolg, Cleric ( Tempest Domain) Jeff - Omagoshno - male rock gnome, Artificer ( Artillerist ) Session 14: Recombobulated Preparation I knew this session was going to see the conclusion of the Discombobulated mini-arc from Session 13 and the beginning of the party's new life aboard the Howling Wind II . I wanted to introduce them to some of the perils of traveling the Open Sk
