Hooked on Gnomes Part 9

Image
A Collection of Gnome Encounters You'll Not Soon Forget Sorry I have not posted in such a long time. I was on an extended business trip to New Zealand and had a lot to take care of when I returned. One nice thing that happened on this trip was that I had an opportunity to jump in on a D&D game at a game store in Auckland. They were welcoming and encouraging. Good times. But enough of that. It's time for some more Gnome encounters! More gnomes. More encounters. Jump on the band wagon! Use them as side quests or as full story arcs. This is the ninth installment. There will be one more installment and I'll be all done. Check out my previous posts for the earlier hooks. 81. A string of robberies plague the local shops. At every theft, rare mushrooms that are grown in a local gnome burrow are left behind in place of the stolen item. 82. As part of a festival celebration, a group of gnomes beg a member of the party to offer his or her services for one day as...

Hooked on Gnomes Part 8

A Collection of Gnome Encounters You'll Not Soon Forget Ladies and gentlemen! Back for another repeat performance! Gnome encounters for fun and profit! Yep. Gnomes. That's what I said. Same old, same old here. Read them. Enjoy them (or not, I'm not the boss of you). Use them as side quests or as full story arcs. This is the eighth set of ten encounters. Check out my previous posts for the earlier hooks. The Encounters (71-80) 71. Two identical gnomes are locked in a cage with the mark of the gnome god Garl Glittergold*. They are dressed in identical clothes which are tattered and soiled in the exact same way. They both beg to be released, each pleading their innocents and accusing the other of heinous crimes. A pile of gems sits between them. 72. The party finds a group of gnomes who are ill-prepared for their adventures. They won't return home until they complete their mission...which by strange fate is the same as the party's. ...

Hooked on Gnomes Part 6

A Collection of Gnome Encounters You'll Not Soon Forget Yep, more gnome adventure hooks are here! While they were written with Dungeons and Dragons in mind, they can be used in any gnome-friendly setting. These encounters can be used either as side quests or as full story arcs. This is the sixth set of ten encounters. Check out my previous posts for the earlier hooks. The Encounters (51-60) 51. A scraggly gnome in heavy work clothes stumbles toward a member of the party. The goggles he or she wears whir as the lenses periscope in and out. "You're the one," they say. "And you appear to be real. Quickly now. We must act quickly if this is to work." 52.  A small fishing village is abuzz with stories of a metallic sea monster that hunts its fleet and destroys vessels with beams of light and fire that shoot from its eyes. It is said a sea gnome rides its back with devilish glee. 53. The party startles a gnome who is fussing with an object att...

Hooked on Gnomes Part 3

Image
A Collection of Gnome Encounters You'll Not Soon Forget The following adventure hooks were created with Dungeons and Dragons campaigns in mind but they are suitable for any setting that includes, indulges in, or flirts with, gnomes and gnome storylines. These encounters can be used either as side quests or as full story arcs. This is the third set of ten encounters. I will eventually compile and flesh out all of the encounters as part of a release on the DMs Guild, so any feedback is always appreciated. The Encounters (21-30) 21. A gnome trader asks a party member to look after a pet rock while he or she is away on business for a few days. The trader explains that if the rock is looked after and loved like any other pet it will reward the party member. If it is neglected, however, it will become angry and cause the party member no end of trouble. 22. A nervous gnome dressed in fine but roughed up clothing greets the party as they are traveling. He or she asks wheth...

Hooked on Gnomes Part 2

A Collection of Gnome Encounters You'll Not Soon Forget I've been putting together some adventure hooks that center on gnomes. I've done this with Dungeons and Dragons campaigns in mind but they are suitable for any setting that includes gnomes. These encounters can be used either as side quests or as full story arcs. Here's the second set of ten encounters. As I mentioned before, once I hit one hundred, I will collect them into a single publication (with additional information on how to use each one) and put them up on the DMs Guild. So, any feedback is always appreciated. The Encounters (11-20) 11. A gnome burrow is in the midst of a contentious tinkering competition that has already seen several judges injured due to hot tempers and not just a few technical malfunctions. Several factions are threatening "war" if no winner is chosen. A neutral third party is needed. 12. Gnomes have gathered on a hill with a bewildering array of siege eq...

Hooked on Gnomes Part 1

A Collection of Gnome Encounters You'll Not Soon Forget I've been putting together some adventure hooks that center on gnomes. They're suitable for any fantasy role playing game, but let's face it these are really for Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. They can be used either as side quests or as full story arcs. Here's the first ten encounters. Once I reach one hundred, I want to collect them into a single publication (with additional information on how to use each one) and put them up on the DMs Guild. So, any feedback is always appreciated. The Encounters (1-10) The doors into a gnome burrow are wide open. Orange and green smoke pours from the entrance and escapes through dozens of concealed vents scattered across the landscape. A deep, rhythmic growl rattles the ground and nearly drowns out the high pitched screech of an alarm and cries for help from within. A traveling gnome artificer is selling magical goods from the back of a wagon alongside th...

Character Concept Package - Goblin Sticker

Image
Character Concept Package The character concept package is a collection of backgrounds, feats, equipment, and other role playing ideas related to a single concept. Materials in a package can be used by any character of any class. Though a particular concept might be race related, they can generally be used by any race as well. This is the third package I've posted to my blog (the first was for a  toy maker  and the second was the rocktender ) beta testing and feedback. Eventually, I'll be publishing a final product on  DMsGuild . I look forward to constructive feedback. Goblin Sticker* Background They came at night. They swarmed your burrow. They crushed its protectors. They slaughtered the defenseless. You don't remember how you managed to escape the massacre. You used to try, of course, in a desperate attempt to explain your own survival. But those moments had a will of their own. They revealed themselves without warning as disconnected, stinging flas...

Theophraxis Backstory - Part Two

Image
The following is the final part in a set of blogs about Theophraxis, the gnome gunslinger I play on  Time2TableTop's  Dungeons & Dragons 5e   The Infinity Tower  live stream. This story picks up where the previous blog left off. Enjoy my ramblings and catch us every Tuesday night 6:30PM Pacific time on  Twitch . The Story Continues If you recall, Grand Ol' Tree was a gnome burrow full of life, hard work, harder play, and deep tradition. It thrived for centuries until orc armies laid waste to it. It's all too common for tightly knit communities decimated by war to scatter across the lands, their populations never to be reunited. This was not the case with the Grand Ol' Tree burrow. In fact, the terrible event only strengthened the bond among its survivors. As a community, they escaped to Tregeria. When they resettled, they did so together. They called their new home New Grand Ol' Tree. This wasn't some misplaced nostalgia for a lost land. I...

Theophraxis Backstory - Part One

Image
The following is the first part in a set of blogs I'll be writing about Theophraxis, the gnome gunslinger I play on Time2TableTop's  Dungeons & Dragons 5e   The Infinity Tower  live stream. In typical gnome fashion his story begins long ago, certainly before his current adventures and in all honesty deeper back in time than any reliable memory can recall. Enjoy my ramblings and catch us every Tuesday night 6:30PM Pacific time on Twitch . In the Beginning Grand Ol' Tree was just a pleasant stroll from Around the Riverbend and an overnight's adventure to "The City." As far as gnome burrows went in those days, it was nothing special but those who called it home loved it exactly as it was. The burrow was so named because of the Ginkgo Tree that served as the community's gathering place. It was beneath this tree that Heranomus Frinkke Rexadalica Wister Klingle Dutterwedge Omnibeard of Spanks Lerone and his family sought refuge from a horde of und...
