Long Tough Fight : A Bard Song of Rest

Image
This blog is mostly about my homebrew  Dungeons and Dragons campaign called Skyfell, but it's also a place where I can exercise my creative needs. I guess this post falls into the latter. I am fortunate enough to be a player in another Dungeons and Drag ons  campaign where I started playing a satyr School of Eloquence bard named Leneus The Bruce. His bardic magic comes from a blend of stand-up comedy, social criticism, and satire. There's also a touch of Tiny Tim in there for his limited musical repertoire. If you're reading this, you probably already know that bards have an ability called Song of Rest  that helps to recover hit points during a short rest. I absolutely felt a need to write the Song of Rest that Lenny would perform. What follows is that song, based on The Beatles A Hard Days Night , sung in Tiny Tim's silky falsetto. This really is just me appeasing my ego, so take it or leave it. Also, if you do like it, and you play a bard, feel free to borrow it for...

Making Doors

Image
Making Doors I have been a fan of HeroQuest since it was first released way back in 1990. (And I am super excited about the re-release from Hasbro Pulse .) Aside from its simple-but-effective combat mechanic, its intriguing miniatures, interesting quests, and ability to use the same character (and treasures) from one session to another, the board came with a wonderful collection of set pieces that were a combination of plastic and cardboard. It was also the closest thing to Dungeons and Dragons that I could get folks to play (as described in an earlier post of mine ). I've played HeroQuest off and on over the years. Since diving deep into Dungeons and Dragons 5e, I've been using the set pieces in my campaigns. One of the more convenient pieces are the doors. The base game comes with several "closed" doors and several "open" doors. I've been using them heavily in my campaign. Using Heroquest Set Pieces in My D&D Campaign   Using Heroquest Set Pieces ...

Gnome Alchemy

Image
Gnome Alchemy Gnome alchemy was briefly touched on in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes but that book provides very little detail regarding the practice. The concept has enjoyed a more thorough exploration in previous versions of Dungeons and Dragons .  Dragon Magazine  issue 291 , for example, is a great source for this sort of information.  What follows in this post is a sampling of alchemical formulas that any character of any race of any class can produce.  An asterisk (*) next to the name indicates the formula was either sourced from a concept  in that issue of Dragon Magazine or was inspired by concepts in  Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes . A single vial of formula covers or is effective against one Medium-sized target unless otherwise stated. A DM might want to consider requiring additional vials for larger targets and some portion of an entire vial for smaller targets, but that's up to you.
