5e Conversion : The Grinch

Image
5e: The Grinch The holiday season is upon us and once again my Dungeons and Dragons mind turns to Christmas with an unreasoning need to mash up the two. To that end, I bring you The Grinch stat block (as I imagine it). This stat block is based on the 2000 live-action movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey. For roleplaying tips, watch the movie. Let me know if you use this stat block and how it worked out. Merry Christmas. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow me on one of these fine social media platforms: Instagram : @hokumsean Spotify : @hokumsean Twitch : @hokumsean Twitter : @hokumsean Tumblr  @hokumsean Stop by my YouTube channel " Ovens and Dragons " and partake in the exciting world of cooking for gamers. 5e Avatar : Flying Bison

Image
5e Avatar : Flying Bison While marathoning Avatar: The Last Airbender  with my daughter, it occurred to me that the show has a wide variety of animals that would be interesting and fun to include in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. So, I decided to write up some 5e stat blocks for a few of these intriguing creations. And, of course, if I'm going to do that, then I must start with the flying bison (alternately called the air bison and the sky bison). Flying Bison Source: Avatar: The Last Airbender The following is the stat block for the flying bison. The Avatar fandom wiki has a great description of this creature, so please take a look at that for more information about this creature. If there's interest in this, I'll create more creatures from Avatar , including the flying lemur and other favorite critters. I'll also take a dive into the more unusual ones. In the meantime, see the  5e Avatar Index  for a complete list of creatures. ----------------------------------

Skyfell Campaign: Session 19

Image
Skyfell Introduction I started a once-per-month  Dungeons and Dragons  game in my  Skyfell campaign setting . I wanted to provide my players with a log of their adventures and then realized that such a log might make for fun blog posts. See the  Session Index  for a complete listing. The cast is: Rodney - Tauffae Twofeather Topshelf - male orc, Fighter ( Champion ) Dan - Drekzhar - male minotaur, Bard/Rogue ( College of Swords, Swashbuckler ) Laura - Meribore Softwalker - female fitbolg, Druid ( Circle of the Moon) Michelle - Bronte Whitewinter - male firbolg, Cleric ( Tempest Domain) Jeff - Omagoshno - male rock gnome, Artificer ( Artillerist ) Session 19 - Clockworks Of Carnage : Malware Infection Preparation The span between session 19 and the previous session was longer than usual. As a result, a big part of my preparation was re-learning the arc by studying my notes. I also read the summaries from all the previous sessions. This helped to get my mind in the right space. A Very Clean Fellow

As I mentioned in my post  Creative Retrospective , I recently revisited my early writing, some of which is nearly two decades old. I enjoyed a few of these short stories. For most, however, the distance of time revealed numerous shortcomings I couldn't see when I had written them. In that post, I mentioned that I would re-publish a few of these stories on this blog partly because I have an attachment to them, partly because the markets that published them no longer exist, and partly because I wanted to have a crack at editing and improving upon them.  What follows, then, is the first of these re-posts. This short story is called "A Very Clean Fellow" and introduces a character I had planned to include in a series of stories (but never really got around to writing). You'll notice there are two copies of the story. The first is the one that was published in Planet Magazine in 2003. The second is my edit/rewrite. I'm including both because I want to experiment wi
